Entrevista a Jillian Reid

1.Why did you decide to come to Spain?
I decided to come here for a year abroad because of the sun and the beaches. I chose three places in this order: Valencia, Murcia and Seville. They told me Yecla, but I didn’t know where it was, so I googled it... and it’s fine.

2. How was your first class?
It was scary because it was my first experience in front of a big audience, 20-25 people, but now the more I’ve done it, the more I enjoy it.

3.What are the differences between the Spanish education system and the northern-Irish one?
There are many differences. In Northern Ireland, after Primary School I went to a Junior High School for three years and then to another school before College. Here in Spain you can continue your friendships all through your school years.

4.What do you miss the most about your country?
I think it’s the food. I like Spanish food, but some of it I don’t, maybe because I’m a bit picky. The other thing I miss is my dog. He’s my best friend at home.

5.Have you tried the typical food: gachasmigas, gazpachos …?
I haven’t, but I have tried other types of food like churros, paella, tortilla… What I have tried so far has been quite nice.

6.What do you think about the Spanish timetable?
It took me quite  a while to get used to eating quite later in the evening. I used to have my dinner at home at about six in the evening, and here at about eight o’clock. I had lunch at 12:30 or 1:00 and here at 3:00 or so depending on the timetable. I think it’s quite normal here.

7.What do you think about the Spanish music?
One of the first questions I was asked when I got here was: Do you like reggaeton? I did not have a clue what reggaeton was, but now I quite like it. It’s quite different from what I hear at home, because I like rap.

8.Do you practise any sport in Yecla?
Recently I have joined a gym here in Yecla. I didn’t do much sport before, but I enjoy the gym here.

9.Which places have you visited in Spain?
Obviously Murcia, but also Valencia, Mojácar, Barcelona, Tarragona, Málaga, Mallorca, Tenerife, Gran Canaria…
